How to Play Pai Gow Poker
Brief Description:
Pai Gow Poker is a game of skill, created by the fusion of the ancient
Chinese Pai Gow, which means 'make nine', game and the modern poker
game. Casino-on-Net Online's Pai Gow poker pits players one-on-one against
the dealer in this exhilarating game in which the player must arrange
seven cards into two hands, creating a 'high' hand and a 'low' hand.
The object in this 'setting' of the two hands is for the player to create
a high and low hand of greater value than the dealer's high and low
hands. For hand values, refer to the Poker Hands Value Chart, below.
Pai Gow Rules:
Online Pai Gow is played with a standard 52-card deck, in addition to
a Joker, making the total deck 53 cards. The Joker can only be used
as an Ace or to complete a Straight, Flush or Straight Flush hand. The
player and the dealer are each dealt seven cards. The player must then
set his/her cards into the two separate hands. The first hand, which
must have 5 cards is the "High Hand", since it must have the higher
value of the two hands. The second hand, of the remaining two cards,
is the player's "Low Hand".
A player may consult the house for a suggestion of the best way to group
the cards by clicking on the "House Way" button. If you wish to bet
by the house recommendation, you can click on set, andafterward you
can decide to rearrange your cards as you prefer.
The main objective of Pai Gow Poker is to beat both of the dealer's
hands, based on the standard Poker hand values rules, displayed in the
chart below. When both hands beat the dealer's hands, the player then
receives "even money" on his/her bet, with only a 5 percent house commission
taken. If both of the player's hands have a lower value than the dealer's
hands, then the dealer takes the player's bet. If only one of the player's
two hands win, the round is a Push (tie).

Winning Combinations:
High (Five-Card) Hand:
The Five-card Hand has the highest rank of the two hands. The object
is to form the best rank for the 5-card hand, from the seven dealt cards.
Low (Two-Card) Hand:
The Two card Hand must have the lower rank of the two hands. The highest-ranking
2-card hand possible is a pair of Aces. If the two card hand is not
a pair, the value of the cards will determine the hand's rank.
The Wild Card:
The Wild Card -the Joker- can only be substituted as a single Ace or
to complete either a Flush, Straight, or Straight Flush hand.
Copy Hand:
When the player and the dealer compare hands that have the same rank,
the hand is referred to as a "Copy Hand". In Pai Gow Poker, the dealer
wins in the occurrence of a Copy Hand, as opposed to Blackjack, where
a Copy Hand results in a "Push".
Pai Gow Poker Hands:
(in order of value) |
5 Aces (using Wild Card)
Royal Flush
Straight Flush
Four of a Kind
Full House
Flush
*Straight
Three of a Kind
Two Pair
One Pair
Ace
King
Queen
Jack
Ten, etc.
*In Pai Gow Poker there is an exception when calculating the value of
a Straight, in comparison to the common poker hand values. The highest
valued Straight in Pai Gow Poker is: A-K-Q-J-10 , the same as in other
poker games. However, in Pai Gow Poker, the second highest valued Straight
is: A-2-3-4-5, the lowest valued straight in other poker games. So in
a Pai Gow Poker game an A-2-3-4-5 Straight would beat a K-Q-J-10-9 Straight,
but lose to a A-K-Q-J-10 Straight.
